Our Interactive Map: "Park Without Worries"
We've created a customized Google Maps that showcases the most strategic bike racks in Florence, divided by area of interest. These aren't just dots on the map: they're the places we use every day.
Our "Workshop Tips" for Perfect Parking
A good bike rack isn't enough if the lock is a shopping bag lock. Here are the golden rules for finding your bike exactly where you left it:
1. The "As High as Possible" Rule
Try to lock the padlock away from the ground. The closer the padlock is to the ground, the easier it is for an intruder to pry it open with wire cutters or use the floor as a base for a hammer.
2. Frame + Wheel (Always!)
Never lock just the front wheel (the one with the quick release, so to speak). The lock should encompass the frame and, if possible, a wheel as well, securing them to the rack structure.
3. Avoid "Isolated Poles"
Paradoxically, a bike rack in a busy area (like Piazza della Repubblica or Santa Maria Novella) is safer than a dark alley behind Palazzo Pitti. Crowds are the best natural anti-theft device.
Florence's Top Cycling Areas
- Central Market Square:Lots of stalls and natural surveillance thanks to the stalls and restaurants
- Piazza Madonna degli Aldobrandini:Perfect for those visiting the Medici Chapels, a very busy pedestrian area
- Piazza Sant'Ambrogio:perfect for those who experience the less touristy side of Florence. Here, the bike racks are close to the historic cafés.
- Piazza Santa Maria Novella:Essential for commuters, but always recommend a U-lock here
- Piazza dei Ciompi:A large and visible space, ideal for those heading towards Sant'Ambrogio
- Piazza Pitti/Sdrucciolo:Tactical bicycle racks for those traveling in Oltrarno
- Piazza Santa Trinita:Excellent for those who have to run errands on Via Tornabuoni but want a slightly more open and controlled area.
