Coppa Cobram Firenze: a tragicomic ride through sport, cinema, and culture

If you thought cycling was all about sweat, performance, and ultralight carbon fiber… you're sorely mistaken. The Coppa Cobram returns to Florence on August 31st, Italy's most tragicomic race, where the true goal is laughter until tears flow.

On Sunday, August 31, 2025 , Florence will host a unique event for the third time: the Coppa Cobram . Inspired by the famous film Fantozzi Contro Tutti , this "tragicomic cycling race" celebrates the 50th anniversary of the release of the first film in the saga.

The event

The start and finish are scheduled at Piazzale Michelangelo , with a village (the “Megaditta camp”) inaugurated the evening before in the Frida summer space, enriched by themed stands: vintage bikes and accessories, the famous Bianchina from Fantozzi , DJ sets, heroic barbers and a dinner with the cult dishes of the Trattoria al Curvone – from Birkermaier meatballs to the onion omelette (free burping included!)

The route

At 10:00 on Sunday , after the "punching", we set off: a route of about 10 km , with a descent from Piazzale Michelangelo towards Piazza Ferrucci, along the Arno "touching" the Ponte Vecchio, up towards Porta Romana and Piazzale Galileo, the legendary "Cima del Diavolo" – to be tackled in Fantozzi-themed clothing, strictly at a moderate speed.

Fantozzian atmosphere

The references to the film are constant: from the “Bomb” (which in the film combines metredine, sympamine, aspirin, franceschina, cocaine, and Cayenne pepper) to the living set, which features the Trattoria, fans composed “out of compassion,” and bourgeois guests such as Countess Serbelloni and the surveyor Calboni.

Special guest

The guest of the day will be the famous Mr. Giancarlo from the Ruota della Fortuna , who will start the race from Piazzale Michelangelo and will interact with the fans in pure goliardic style.

The Coppa Cobram isn't a race, it's an experience: a mix of sport , irony , folk art , and a cinematic setting that celebrates Paolo Villaggio and his characters. An unmissable event for those who love cycling... with a smile.
